Solo Backpacking Diaries: South Batan, Batanes

It’s the 2nd to my last day in Batanes and in one sleep I will be back home. Time ran so fast and my heart breaks a little with the taste of bittersweet soon-goodbye. A part of me says, “You miss home, girl”, and the wanderlust soul whispers “Wish you’d stay a few days more for Itbayat.” I wish there was a word for that weird restless emotional feeling you get when a part of your journey is near to a closing.

I went out of my room and spotted Ate Linda and Kuya Jared by the gate beaming with smiles saying “South Batan kayo ngayon, Ms.” We drove in to the highway and I spoke slowly under my breath…”Have fun, girl. Make it count!”

Kuya, excited na ako!”, I said looking at the horizon with a grin.

Mahatao Town Proper: It’s a Saturday. I asked Kuya Jared where the kids are. “Basta Sabado ma’m kadalasan pumupunta po sa bukid. Sumasama sa mga magulang nila. Yung iba baka nasa bahay lang din po natutulog.” Ahhh. the simple, provincial life. ❤

The picturesque view of Tayid lighthouse ruined by my presence. Reminds me of the many photos I see of Ireland. I will the visit the place (Ireland) one day.

The morning after, as I boarded the plane, Batanes turns into liquid and runs through my hands.
